Sunshine peeks through just in time for the 85th edition of the Tucson Rodeo.

(Tucson, Ariz.) –Despite heavy rains and winds in the morning, arena conditions were excellent by the 2 p.m. opening and 2,600 fans closed their umbrellas to enjoy day one at the Tucson Rodeo.

Show-me-the-money rides were recorded in bareback riding—Jason Havens, Prineville, Ore. tamed Beutler & Son’s South Point and Kaycee Field , Payson, Utah, hung on to Sure Motion for 88-point rides.  Veteran bull rider Mike Moore from Kanakee, Ill. Rode Summer Wages to a round -high 84. The three roughstock riders are in good position to make the finals on Sunday, Feb. 28.

Sunday, Feb. 21 is Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day, an annual event at the Tucson Rodeo to raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Southern Arizona. Gates open at 11 a.m., rodeo activities begin at 12:30 p.m.
