Tucson Rodeo - Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 LOCAL TEAM ROPERS SET NEW ARENA RECORD
Cheered on by a sold-out crowd, team ropers Colter Todd of Marana and Cesar de la Cruz of Tucson set a new Tucson arena record of 12.0 seconds for the fastest total time on two runs. Their efforts today moved them up to first in the aggregate heading into the final round on Sunday. The previous record of 12.3 was recorded in 1992. The team with the lowest combined time for three runs wins the Tucson Rodeo championship.
Sunday’s finals features current world champions Bobby Mote in bareback riding, Jason Miller in steer wrestling and Trevor Brazille in tie-down roping. Five-time world champion and fan favorite Billy Etbauer will compete in the saddle bronc finals. Tuba City, Ariz. bull rider Terrance Granger will face the ride of his career Sunday. Granger drew Beutler & Son’s Voodoo Child, the PRCA bucking bull of the year with a perfect buck-off record in over 30 appearances.

Trevor Brazile earned his second consecutive Tucson tie-down roping championship and took home the Lynn Beutler Award as Tucson’s all-around champion. Brazile of Decatur, Texas, who also competed in team roping, picked up a paycheck for $6,047 for his efforts in Tucson.
The top 12 competitors in each event competed today with the best aggregate times or scores for the nine-day event earning the event championship. Perfect weather and a sell-out crowd of 11,000 capped off a star-studded rodeo for the 83rd time in Tucson.
